My Timeline

1. 1606 –Willem Jaszoon was born in 1530 and he died in 1630.He was best known for the discovery of Australia he discovered Australia’s coastline and his nationality was Dutch.

2. 1769- James Cook was a wonderful seaman. Coming from a poor family, He lived in Yorkshire, England. He was the first Englishmen to travel to the East Coast of Australia.


3. 1770-Captain Cook sails into Botany Bay and maps the east coast of Australia. At dawn 19/04/1770 Lieutenant Zachary Hicks became Australia’s east coastline. Captain Cook named this place on south-
east off the Victoria coast.

4. 13/05/1787- Eight ships left England to sail to Australia. They were called the First Fleet. Their names are Sirius, Supply, Alexander, Charlotte, Scarborough, Friendship, Prince of Wales and Lady Rerirhyn.

5. 1788-The British colonisers invaded and took possession of the Aboriginal People and that was when the colonisation of Australia begun. It took eleven years to be fully colonised 1788-1901.


6. 1790-Second Fleet arrives.

7. 1798- In December 1798, the Bass and six volunteers. Set out in an eight and a half metre long whaleboat to find out if Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) had separated from mainland Australia.


8. 1799-Black war begins with six years of fierce resistance by Aborigines around Sydney.

9. 1851-The person who discovered the gold rush was Haraves. The ‘rush’ was certainly and truly on. The numbers of new arrivals were much greater than the number of convicts in the past seventy years. The total population had gone up from 430,000 in 1851 and then in 1871 1.5 million.


10. 1890-Federal council is formed.
11. 1872- Uluru was first sighted by Europeans in 1872 and was known or named Ayers Rock.

12. 1901- On January First 1901, Sydney was prepared for the proclamation of Australia as a new nation.


13. 22/01/1901-Queen Victoria died in 1901at the age of 81. She was the queen of Great Britain for 63 years. When her husband died in 1861, Victoria had donned widow’s mourning cloths and wore them for the rest of her life.

14. 1901- King Edward and the VII approved the Australian national flag. With federation and joining of all people under commonwealth. There came a real need for a national flag to unite the people of the six colonies.


15. 1903-Alfred Deakin was Australia’s second prime minister and was prime minister three times. He served from 1903-1904, from 1905-1908 and 1909-1910.
